Knights of St. John International & Ladies Auxiliaries celebrated their Patron Feast Day

St. John Feast Day 2012

The 3rd District Commandery, Districts 3, 4, 7 & 8 Ladies Auxiliaries of Knights of St. John International with their Cadets and Junior Auxiliaries celebrated their Patron Saint Feast Day on Saturday 30th June 2012 at Queen of Peace Parish, Madina with a cheque donation of GHC 35,000.00 to the Accra Archdiocesan Youth Training Centre located at Lashibi.

The event was also to commemorate the 75th anniversary celebration of the advent of the Noble and Ancient Order in Saltpond, Ghana in 1937. The climax of the Diamond Jubilee will be done in Saltpond in October this year.

The main celebrant for the thanksgiving mass was the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, His Grace Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle. The latter inspected a guard of honour mounted by a Detachment of Knights and Ladies Auxiliaries just before the Holy Mass. Concelebrating the mass with the Archbishop were about 7 Priests including Rev. Fr. Col. Ted Nelson Adjakpey, Supreme Subordinate Chaplain; the Parish Priest of Queen of Parish, Rev. Fr. Charles Owusu-Ansah and his Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Alphonse Sekongo; Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Richard Opong who doubles as the Dean for Madina Deanery and Spiritual Adviser for St. John the Evangelist Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary in Adenta. Others were Rev. Fr. John Benya Mensah of St Mark Catholic Church at Ashongma who is also a brother Knight with Holy Spirit Commandery #431, Adabraka; Rev. Fr. Lt. David Arko Amissah, Spiritual Adviser for Christ the King Commandery and 3rd Battalion Chaplain; Rev. Fr. Samuel Filton-Mensah, 1st Battalion Chaplain.

There were series of presentations in the form of donations for charity works as that is one of the main tenets of the Order. Brig. Gen. Robert K. Foli, Immediate Past Grand President of Accra Grand Commandery presented a cheque worth GHC 35,000.00 to the Archbishop for the development of the Archdiocesan Youth Training Centre at Lashibi. It would be recalled that in June last year, the Order in Accra Archdiocese donated GHC 30,000.00 to the same recipient for the same purpose at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Adenta. Following the donation to the Youth Centre was a donation of a cash amount of GHC 1,500.00 to the Parish Priest of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for development work in the Parish. The other one was a cheque worth GHC 1,000.00 to the Archbishop for the upkeep of Seminarians. The last but not the least was a cheque donation presented by Sister Margaret-Mary Palmer-Buckle, Respected President of District 4 Ladies Auxiliary on behalf of the District for the Awen Children’s Education Endowment Fund. Sister Awen passed away two years back and barely a year ago, just after the Grand Convention, Sir Knight Gosper also died. The late couple left behind 4 girls of school going ages. At the Regimental Lenten Retreat held at the Archdiocesan Youth Centre at Lashibi in March this year, the Knights and Ladies equally donated a cheque of GHC 2,000.00 for their school fees.

The Archbishop on his part thanked the Knights and Ladies Auxiliaries for their generous donations and commended them for their punctuality at the celebration. He wished the Order a positive growth and reminded them to keep to the virtues of their Patron Saint, St. John the Baptist who is the only Saint in the Catholic Church with two Feasts namely his birth date on 24th June and his death date on 29th August. The Archbishop also dedicated a pair of Ambo valued at GHC 5,225.00 donated by the Queen of Peace Commandery #604 and Ladies Auxiliary #510 to the Queen of Peace Church.

The celebration was crowned with a Buffet Lunch at the Parish Hall of Queen of Peace Parish soon after the mass.
